Self-sensing of magnetic actuators

31.08.2023 -

Typical closed-loop actuators use additional position sensors to measure and control their displacement. In a recent publication, we have demonstrated at the example of an adaptive prism, how complex magnetic actuators with multiple degrees of freedom can sense their own position without the complexity of additional sensors. We used a precise relative measument of the impedances of the actuation coils to measure the position, in this case two tilt angles and the axial shift of the prism surface.
